Always and Forever

I remember meeting you, looking into eyes still dark enough to verge on black, unused to the sunlight of the outside world. I remember thinking seeing you for the first time would be like meeting the children at the orphanage meeting these strangers who I was to welcome into my home. As much as I cared what happened to them and wanted the best for each child I met. I couldn't take one of them into my house, they would be a stranger masquerading as my child. A MemoryA Memory
Grubby fingers press against the clean glass leaving greasy smudges as small fingers splay out and wide gray-blue eyes stare in transfixed wonder out the car window. I don't remember how old I am in this memory, it's an old one, one of those memories where you wonder if it's even real. I hope it is, it's so vivid in my minds eye. I think I'm about seven, either way that's the nearest guess I have. We were driving into Regina, driving home from somewhere and it's raining. Sweet GrassSweet Grass and Babies breath
Soft laughter echoes down and over the sweet grass that grows in the rolling meadows of the Saskatchewan prairie. Prairie dogs watch us from the gaping mouths of their dens too shy and frightened to venture out where we might see them. We lay there conscious only of the soft whispers of the long grass and the beating of our hearts. You grin sweetly and gently kiss my dimples as I smile back, carefree in your arms this is year three we've stopped here and just lain in the grasses. It's our favourite spot, where you've finally driven far enough out that you can't see Saskatoon anymore and the prairies Sweet Grass
